While the Pandemic of 2020 will long be remembered as isolating many of us, the Kiwanians of Southeast Volusia county were successful in erecting 375 flags in New Smyrna’s Riverside Park honoring current service personnel, veterans both living and deceased, first responders, EMS, Doctors, Nurses, Police and Fire.
Names of those were put on banners and flown individually with the American flag in what has become known as “The Field of Honor.”
The money raised by it will stay in our community as we “serve the children” per our Kiwanis motto.
This year's event doubled the size of the field of last year. This also was the first year that Kiwanis partnered with Halifax Health in sponsoring the field.
The end result was breathtaking. 375 flags flew proudly from 1 November to 29 November 2020 thanks in large measure to Halifax Health, the RWB group and the Kiwanis of Southeast Volusia.
